Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre

ASIACCS 2025 organizers will arrange a special tour to the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre – a famous cultural attraction in Hanoi. It is open only for ASIACCS 2025 (conference/workshop) registered attendees. The tour will take place on 25 August 2024. The total number of visitors is capped at 135 persons. A two-way transportation will be provided for the participants.

Located in the heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre is one of Vietnam’s most iconic cultural attractions. Established in 1969, it preserves and showcases the unique art of water puppetry, a tradition that dates back to the 11th century. Originally performed by farmers in the rice paddies of Northern Vietnam, water puppetry combines folklore, music, and storytelling, all brought to life on a water-filled stage. At Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, visitors are treated to vibrant performances where wooden puppets dance, glide, and spin across the water, controlled skillfully by hidden puppeteers.
